Bathroom officially done, basement work continues

This weekend marks the real end of the bathroom remodel. I said it was done, but I had a few things to finish up. I had a pirce of windows trim to put in, the fixures had to be finished up, etc. I have to say this bathroom is totally different than it was a few months ago.

Gone is the pink toilet and tub, the pink tile, the mold, the sink at one end of the vanity and slow draining sink.

The vanity is much higher than the old one. I feel like a really short person using the sink.

Overall the bathroom came out as I pictured it before I started. This marks the end of the upstairs remodel. Basically every room on the first floor has been changed. The kitchen has a new floor. The living room had the dark walnut panelling removed. The dinning room had a 1/2 wall built at the stairs. The bedrooms were forever seperated by finally building a wall in the closet between them.  And the entire floor has Maple floors.

Now onto the basement. Unlike the upstairs where I kept the floor plan the same, the basement will be changed. We already pulled down the most of the ceilings and panelling. A new French door has been installed where a windows was. A door is going to be removed and replaced with a window. We are looking into moving the bathroom and making it a full bath. And moving the laundry room.

The basement will get wood floors eventually. RIght now we are trying to decide on the species of wood. I have been trying to keep the wood in the house the same species as outside the house; Oak, Birch and Maple. We have Maple floors, birch trim (stained dark Walnut) and Oak Kitchen cabinets. And the house frame is made up Pine. That covers all the type of trees on the land. We do have some Cedar trees (the house has cedar siding).

But when my familiy was up a few weeks ago, It was discovered that there is a possible fruit tree on the land. We are not sure what kind of tree it is. I am hoping it's Cherry, because I am leaning towards Cherry floors in the basement.  But it might just be an Elm tree. Hmm Elm floors????

Susan's family will be up in July, so any remodeling is on hold until then. I am focusing on cleaning things up.

I hope to have some funny stories soon too.
