Some History

I was going through some old Photos and found these. Above is my Uncle Willy "Unc" holding the Muskie he caught on the Lake. It's taken at the old "Woods" resort. It's from the mid to late 1950s. The Muskie hung on Unc's wall until 1998.
Below is the 4 kids with Ma on the porch. This is from 1963-64.

Hey Joe,
don't know if you remember my family, but we built a house a few down from your parents on the lake. My father is Chuck Serwin. Thanks for the blog.
I've been mighty nostalgic for Upper Kaubashine... I regret we sold our place in 1989. A shame. I'm sorry for your loss; I remember your parents very well.
I have a question about these photos from the 1950s: are they taken at the Berends? I have so many wonderful childhood memories of Grandma and Grandpa Berend, as I called them. They used to feed me molasses cookies and tell me stories about the lake, about flying squirrels and Indians that lived on the lake in the early part of the 20th c. Is that abandoned railroad car still sitting adjacent to their old place, alongside the deer path?
It was sad when they sold it off to the Doyles/Lairds. Hard to believe that your governor was a former neighbor. My sister and I are around Gus and Gabe Doyle's ages, and we used to swim with them at their place, but I never liked it much, because the lakebed was mucky from years of fallen leaves. It must have had to do with the washout you describe, the one that basically created their cove. Who owns that property now?
If you get a chance, shoot me an e-mail.
Take care,
Stephen Serwin
